Colostrum Milk

Colostrum milk is one of the most important foods a newborn can receive from his mother soon after his birth. Colostrum is thick, yellowish milk that is secreted by a mammal in the first several days after delivery. One factor that makes colostrum milk invaluable to the newborn is a high concentration of antibodies vital in warding off disease.

Another factor is the high concentration of calcium, potassium, proteins, fat-soluble vitamins, minerals and antibodies.

Colostrum milk helps the newborn to fight diseases up to 4 months old. Calves should receive colostrum from their mothers, ideally within 3-4 hours of birth. If they don't, receive the milk within 8 hours of birth, they may face serious health problems throughout their lives.

Researchers have proven that in human beings, too, no food is as nutritious as mothers' colostrum for newborns. Babies who are not breastfed soon after the birth may develop serious psychological and physical disorders as they age. The colostrum milk produced in humans is low in fat and high in carbohydrates, which keeps a baby healthier. Colostrum milk provides baby with antibodies and disease destroying leukocytes, which help the infant to successfully fight off diseases. In addition to all this, the colostrum milk is extremely easy to digest making it the perfect first food for baby.

When the milk produced in the mother's body, changes from colostrum milk to normal milk, the level of total protein, fat, total solids, solids-not-fat and ash decreases, lactose increases and colostral Ig declines rapidly. But due to its innumerable advantages, many mothers prefer to provide a healthy dose of colostrum milk to their children from other sources also. In such cases, bovine colostrum can be a very good alternative as the colostrum milk obtained from cows is not species specific. Also, the composition of bovine colostrum is strikingly similar to that of human beings.

If the colostrum milk is being used in frozen form, it should be used within 24 hours after completely thawed. The storage container should be marked with the time.

Remember, colostrum milk that is obtained from the mother within 12 hours of birth is said to be the best, so be sure to check the time and date stamp before buying colostrum.

Cow Colostrum milk is the milk produced from cow immediately after birth. Cow Colostrum milk which is beneficial to children and adults alike.

Bovine colostrum contains components such as immunoglobulins, antibodies, proline-rich polepeptyde, lactoferrin and glycoproteins, which are instrumental in fighting viruses in the human body. Also, the growth factors present in Bovine Colostrum are identical to those of human colostrum. There are over 90 components in bovine colostrum, which are divided into two classes, immune factors and growth factors. These two factors contribute largely in maintaining health for the human beings making bovine colostrum the preferred tonic for a growing number of people all over the world.

Bovine colostrum can rejuvenate your brain, assist generation or improvement of aged muscles, burn fat, assist the internal regulation of blood glucose levels, and repair the body’s DNA and RNA. Also, the vitamins and minerals present in bovine colostrum act as coenzymes, which maintain the chemical process in the body.

Over the years, research has proved that immune and growth factors found in bovine colostrum are nearly identical to that of human colostrum. So, bovine colostrum, more than any other forms of colostrum will be beneficial to human health. Also, there is a misconception that only children can benefit from colostrum. As a matter of fact, as bodies age, they stop producing immune and growth factors that help us fight diseases so there is a real need for colostrum in adults.

Colostrum is a natural food revealing no side effects. No wonder it’s been a favorite of athletes and body builders. Bovine colostrum is best taken in powder form as it gives better results when mixed with saliva. Another important advantage is that it can help the body to utilize the proteins and vitamins obtained form other food to a greater extent.

Bovine colostrum can be the right food for people of every age. But it’s important to consult your physician before taking colostrum.

On Feb. 2, 2007, the United Nations scientific panel studying climate change declared that the evidence of a warming trend is "unequivocal," and that human activity has "very likely" been the driving force in that change over the last 50 years. The last report by the group, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, in 2001, had found that humanity had "likely" played a role.

The addition of that single word "very" did more than reflect mounting scientific evidence that the release of carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping gases from smokestacks, tailpipes and burning forests has played a central role in raising the average surface temperature of the earth by more than 1 degree Fahrenheit since 1900. It also added new momentum to a debate that now seems centered less over whether humans are warming the planet, but instead over what to do about it. In recent months, business groups have banded together to make unprecedented calls for federal regulation of greenhouse gases. The subject had a red-carpet moment when former Vice President Al Gore's documentary, "An Inconvenient Truth," was awarded an Oscar; and the Supreme Court made its first global warming-related decision, ruling 5 to 4 that the Environmental Protection Agency had not justified its position that it was not authorized to regulate carbon dioxide.

The greenhouse effect has been part of the earth's workings since its earliest days. Gases like carbon dioxide and methane allow sunlight to reach the earth, but prevent some of the resulting heat from radiating back out into space. Without the greenhouse effect, the planet would never have warmed enough to allow life to form. But as ever larger amounts of carbon dioxide have been released along with the development of industrial economies, the atmosphere has grown warmer at an accelerating rate: Since 1970, temperatures have gone up at nearly three times the average for the 20th century.

The latest report from the climate panel predicted that the global climate is likely to rise between 3.5 and 8 degrees Fahrenheit if the carbon dioxide concentration in the atmosphere reaches twice the level of 1750. By 2100, sea levels are likely to rise between 7 to 23 inches, it said, and the changes now underway will continue for centuries to come.

Ujung Pandang Harbor - Makasar

The provincial capital was Ujung Pandang and had an important role as the gateway to the former kingdom of Gowa and now to the whole province because of its natural harbor. The center of business and administration, the city has expanded outwards from its most important landmark that is 'Ujung Pandang fortress' that faces to the sea front. One of the eleven fortresses of the kingdom, it was built in 1545 during the reign of Tuni Pallanga, the 10th Gowa sultan. When Gowa capitulated to the colonial forces under the treaty of Bungaya in 1667, the fort was renamed Rotterdam by Admiral Spellman who constructed bastions and buildings of typical Dutch architecture making it become the center of the civilian government, including a church on its premises. One of the best preserved forts of that area, only the thick walls of earth and stones remain of the original complex, now occupied by educational and cultural offices of the provincial government. The two buildings house Ujung Pandang State Museum, exhibiting archaeological and historical objects, manuscripts, numismatics, ceramics and ethnic costumes and ornaments.

Visiting hours of the museum are from 8.00 a.m. until 4.00 p.m. daily except on Mondays and public holidays. The fort itself is open daily till 17.00 p.m. Dedicated as the center of culture, the Conservatory of Dance and Music is located here and on the open stage in the center of the fort, dance classes for children can be seen in progress.

Though unmarked, but of historical interest is the dungeon where one of Indonesia's most prominent heroes in the struggle for freedom, Prince Diponegoro was imprisoned for 27 years. Prince Diponegoro was buried in a family plot in the middle of the city on a street named after him: Diponegoro Street. The family tree displayed on the wall indicated that none of his descendants returned to the courts of Yogyakarta, instead, they settled in Ujung Pandang and their custodian is a great-grandson.

Mr. Bundt, a Dutchman, has in his private residence at Mochtar Lutfi Street 15, a collection of seashells and corals. His spacious garden is filled with rare Indonesian orchids and hybrids. A visit is worthwhile and several of the collections are on sale. Mr. Bundt is registered in the Sander's List of London as an expert in orchid cultivation.

Biak Island in West Papua

Biak Island
Also spelled WIAK ISLAND, largest of the Schouten Islands, off the northern coast of West Papua (the Indonesian part of New Guinea) at the entrance to Cenderawasih (Geelvink) Bay. It is 45 miles (72 km) long and 23 miles (37 km) wide and has an area of 948 square miles (2,455 square km). Biak was seized by the Japanese in April 1942 during World War II; it was retaken May 27-July 22, 1944, by Allied forces.

Schouten Islands = Biak Island
Indonesian Kepulauan Schouten, formerly MISORE ISLANDS, archipelago in the Pacific Ocean across the entrance to Cenderawasih Bay, off the northern coast of West Papua provinsi ("province"), Indonesia. The first European sighting of the group was by the Dutch navigator Willem Corneliszoon Schouten. The chief islands are Biak, Supiori, and Numfor. The town of Biak, on the southern coast of Biak, is the mainsettlement and administrative centre. The islands, particularlyNumfor and Biak, are among the most densely populated areas of Irian Jaya.
This group should not be confused with another island group of the same name, also off the northern coast of New Guinea but belonging to Papua New Guinea.

Schouten, Willem
b. 1567?, Hoorn, Neth.
d. 1625, Antongil Bay, Madagascar
in full WILLEM CORNELISZOON SCHOUTEN, Dutch explorer whose1615-16 expedition discovered a new route, the Drake Passage, around the southern tip of South America, connecting the Atlantic Ocean with the Pacific.
The Dutch East India Company held a monopoly on all East Indies trade by ships routed through the Strait of Magellan when, in1615, an Amsterdam merchant, Isaac Le Maire, mounted an expedition to find a new route to the Pacific. His son Jakob and veteran sea captain Schouten led the voyage that set sail in May1615 with two ships--the second piloted by Schouten's brotherJan. By December they reached the far southeastern coast of South America, where the smaller ship caught fire and had to be abandoned. Sailing south the next month, Schouten passed throughthe Le Maire Strait between Tierra Del Fuego and Estados (Staten)Island, and sailed into the Pacific. He gave the southernmost tipof America the name Cape Horn (Dutch: Kaap Hoorn). This new route, now known as the Drake Passage, was longer but much simpler than the established passage through the Strait of Magellan.
The expedition went on to discover new islands in the SouthPacific before reaching its destination, Batavia, Java (nowJakarta, Indon.), in October 1616. There the Dutch governor refused to believe that Schouten had discovered a new route westward and confiscated his cargo. Schouten and Le Maire were charged with infringing on the monopoly and were sent home toHolland; Le Maire died along the way. Upon his return to the Netherlands, Schouten's (and Le Maire's) diaries, complete with maps, were published and proved valuable to subsequent explorers.

Biak town, where the airport is located, is the chief urbancentre. It is also the transportation centre for West Papua, with flights to other towns in West Papua, as well as to Surabaya and Ujung Pandang in Indonesia and to Hong Kong. It has now become an oil boom town as well.

Biak the main island of Cenderawasih Bay, and near by Supiori Island are the respective locations for the Biak and Supiori Nature Reserves. These parks are bird sanctuaries that include beautiful varieties of parrots and cockatoos. Biak is the center for the illegal trade of uniqueIrianese birds, as well as a bustling headquarters for both the tuna industry and offshore oil drilling operations.

In the town of Biak, there are number of surprisingly good restaurants featuring freshly caught seafood. There a several new hotels in town, and taxis roam the streets looking for fares. Three hospitals are available in caseof emergencies, and modern stores and pharmacies are conveniently located in center of town. There is an open-air market that sell fruits and vegetables early in the morning, and there are shops selling souvenirs and jewelry crafted from 23-kt. gold, which are sold by weight, with very little added for workmanship.

Biak's offshore island are worth a visit if one has the time. The principal of these outlying destinations are Numfor and Yapen islands. Yapen can breached by air, but Numfor is only accessible by boat. And route native boats which are readily hired, one can view lobsters,blue-spotted rays, and other inhabitants of the coral formations.

Pioneer CDJ

CDJ is a term used to describe a CD player made by Pioneer Electronics, that operates similarly to a vinyl turntable for the purposes of DJing. Originally, the term referred to the CDJ-500 by Pioneer Electronics, but now includes the whole line of Pioneer CD-turntables.

The Pioneer CDJ-400, CDJ-800, CDJ-1000 (including the Mark 2 and Mark 3) have vinyl mode and a virtual platter that allows the operator to manually manipulate music on a CD as if it were on a turntable, while lesser models (CDJ-100S, CDJ-200) are essentially little more than plain CD players. While still having the options to manipulate the CD, they lack the accuracy and vinyl modes of the later models.

The CDJ-1000 was the main model to find mass usage in both clubs and amongst domestic users, especially from the second version of the model, the CDJ-1000MK2.

The latest model is the CDJ-400 which incorporates the main new feature of having a USB input and control abilities on the player. However it is not as functional as the CDJ-1000MK3, hence the number 400 being assigned to the machine.

Additionally, Pioneer make mixers such as the DJM series (including the DJM-500, DJM-600, DJM-800, and the DJM-1000) which have an increasing amount of cueing facilities and effects that can be applied to any channel, often in association with the control wire plugged in between mixer and CDJ-type CD player, so that either can be conrolled remotely by the other
